2009 Programs

Unless otherwise indicated, all meetings begin at 10 a.m. and are held at the Winfield Public Library (0S291 Winfield Rd., Winfield, IL 60190; 1/2 mile north of Roosevelt Rd.)

January 31 — Pygora spinning and project kick-off. Choose one or more projects for 2009. Program leaders: Rose Fisk, Julie Guise, and Sherry Johnson. Bring a spinning wheel in working order and hand cards if you have them.

February 28 — Spinner's web. An introduction to spinning and other textile sites on the Internet. Leader: Mickey Anderson. Bring your spinning wheel or other project to work on while you listen.

March 28 — Plying old & new yarns. Program leader: Patsy Zawistoski.

April 25 — Spinning clinic. This is the Saturday after a spinning demonstration at Bartlett Public Library. This is a sharing session with members and we hope with some new spinners as well. Bring your wheel or spindle, any spinning questions or problems, and your willingness to share your knowledge and expertise. Coordinator: Jane Plass. Location: Bartlett Public Library (800 S Bartlett Rd., Bartlett, IL 60103).

May 1-3 — Retreat at Royer Lodge, Byron Center, Brownsville, Wisconsin. $80.00 covers meals (breakfast on Saturday through breakfast on Sunday) and lodging. No extra charge for those able to stay Sunday night.

June 20 — Field trip to Old World Wisconsin, an outdoor museum of rural Wisconsin life in the 19th century. Coordinator: Pat Lamesch.

July — No program, but we may have an informal spinning get-together. Members should watch the Google group or contact Cindy Bennish for information.

August 22 — Spinning and knitting silk hankies. Leader: Mickey Anderson.

September 26 — Spinning your yarn in new directions: playing with the connection between fiber, yarn, and technique. Workshop by Carol H. Rhoades. At St. Joseph Orthodox Church in Wheaton, IL. Current guild members may register for $45. Nonmembers may register for $60 after July 31, 2009. For details and a registration form, see the workshop brochure (in PDF format).

October 24 — Project wrap-up. Participants in the 2009 fiber swap will share their work and what they learned. Location to be announced.

November 14 — Annual planning meeting/potluck lunch/Show & Tell prize drawing. At a member's home in Ingleside, IL.

December — No meeting
